Moving On- Staying Well

Managing your own health, and feeling your way around health services can be tricky for everybody; but adding a few years and a different cultural background can make it very difficult.

The Multicultural Health Service of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District has been working with many culturally and linguistically diverse groups across Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Lithgow, to help improve peoples understanding of health, particularly amongst older community members.

The result has been the development of a seven week program called 'Moving On'.

'Moving On' is delivered by trained health workers who speak the community language as well as English, with the support of community leaders. The program runs for three hours each week, for seven weeks, and it offers a chance to meet new people as well as helping participants to become more confident when making decisions about their own health. This wonderful group from the local Filipino community have enjoyed socialising while learning and sharing experiences about how they manage chronic health issues and navigate the health system. Now, after 7 weeks and many new friendships- its time to graduate as more confident individuals.

If you are interested in the 'Moving On' program for yourself or someone you care about, please go to our contact page and we will put you in touch with the Multicultural Health Team.

This project is a partnership between Arthritis and Osteoporosis NSW, Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, and the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Multicultural Health Service.
